Earnings Growth Charts

I have 11 stocks from the earning list reporting this week, and picked out 5 to graph. I may get to some of the others later in the quarter when things slow down. On the graph, in the top panel the red line is quarterly EPS growth rate, black is quarterly revenue growth rate. In the middle the red line is quarterly EPS, green is quartely revenue, black is price, and blue is price relative to SPX.  If the stocks is reporting the end of a fiscal year, the large red bars are annual EPS. At the bottom the black bars are volume.

ATRO is up frist. They reported accelerating growth this quarter, but EPS has taken several years to get back to 2007 levels. Price is about there as well. There isn't much to do here until we see either price or EPS (or preferably both) hit new highs.

BWLD reported accelerating growth as well this quarter, and has about the most consistent annual EPS growth I have seen for a while. The steady growth has resulted in a steady up trend in price. This quarter's report resulted in a big gap out of what appears to be a third stage base, so this still has a high potential for future gains, I would say I will be watching this, but now that it is on the leadership will, I have to watch it.

CKSW reported triple digit growth this quarter. This is in a long term up trend in earnings, but is not very consistent. Despite that, it has been in a pretty good up trend in price, and is about done forming the right side of a base. With triple digit growth this quarter, there is a very good possibility it will break out quite soon.

IPGP reported decelerating growth this quarter, but a big increase in annual EPS. This has recently had a pretty sharp pullback, followed by an equally sharp bounce back, so it is hard to say what the market is pricing in, but  it is pretty unlikely that the kind of growth it saw last year will continue.

One of the purposes of the earning list is to find stocks that will become future leaders. Some I consider more likely than others to do it, and NANO was not one I really thought would become one as soon as it has. This reported negative growth this quarter, and also a drop in annual earnings, but this has been on the leadership list for a couple of weeks now, which may mean that the market is anticipating high future growth. Be prepared for a roller coaster ride if that growth doesn't materialize.
